In memory of Stephen George Hedges  6.8.1954 – 19.7.2018

Husband, Father & Business Partner

After a painfully brief struggle with cancer, my dear Dad Stephen passed away on Thursday, 19th July, aged 63.  As a family, we continue to readjust to life without him and navigate the pain of his absence.

Stephen has been a huge part of the Akamuti story since day one. In the early days we used to drive around the countryside together, finding beeswax and looking for shops to sell my products to. From my very first sale all the way to our fifteenth birthday, Dad was by my side every step of the way.

In the later years, he was the king of black soaps and butters. Stephen spent much of his time creating quality products while helping me run the business behind the scenes and filling in all those ugly VAT returns.

Stephen was always at his happiest when he was outdoors and most at home when he was far from the madding crowd in the mountains. He loved his walking boots and a good map and I have many happy memories of following him up hills and down dales, both as a child and an adult. He passed on his love of nature and appreciation for beautiful places to all of his children.

He had a great passion for music, growing gardens and his beloved camera…he was always hunting for waterfalls or chasing a sunset! We don’t have to look far to see something that Dad loved, built, planted or crafted. He really is all around us. We have love and memories to treasure.

We buried Dad here at home, it is good to have him close by.  He is now resting in a beautiful place overlooking the forests and fields of the valley. He is in a place he loved, close to the people he loved.

I trust that his restless spirit is now in perfect peace. Fly free!
