Rosehip: nature’s wild and wonderful winter gift

Wild and wonderful, radiant rosehips. They begin life as beautifully delicate roses, dancing in the sunshine. I love how they transform into bright robust jewels, clinging like rubies to frosty branches.  Rosehips tell us a warm story of summer sunshine and of winter fortitude, as they courageously survive well into the colder months. They’re not just beautiful to look at – these wonderful fruits yield a rich and nourishing, beautifully orange oil brimming with goodness – a true gift from nature.  Rosehip seed oil is fantastic for many elements of skincare, having a very high content of fatty acids, antioxidants and vitamins A, C and E, everything that is needed for repair and renewal. Rosehip seed oil will keep the skin soft and hydrated, diminishing lines and repairing damage.  If you are tackling a skin problem, whether it be sun damage, scars or even premature aging, this precious oil would be my first choice. In fact, some of our most astonishing feedback has come from our customers who have used rosehip to care for burns and post surgery scars. Unlike some oils, rosehip is a wonderfully light oil to use and leaves the skin feeling beautifully smooth and soft. It sinks into the skin beautifully and does not exacerbate any oiliness, outbreaks or skin problems, in fact it can restore balance and regulation.
Use it alone, or make up your own blend for added benefits -you might like to try some of my recipes below.  My favourite blends always include lemon or rose otto oil – but remember, plain rosehip oil is absolutely fine to use too.

Here are a few ways I love to use my rosehip seed oil:

Winter morning glow: Rosehip is a lovely oil for winter skincare. Find your natural glow with a morning moisturising ritual – simply massage 2–3 drops into clean skin before you begin your day to keep skin soft, soothed and moisturised.

Rest and renewal blend: Add a drop of rose otto essential oil into the palm of your hand, followed by a few drops of rosehip oil, together they have a beautifully relaxing synergy that soothes the skin and the senses, just before bed.

Repair for scars and stretch marks: Gently massage the affected areas with a few drops of rosehip oil at least once a day. For very damaged skin or and surgical scars, add 1 drop of frankincense essential oil to 5ml of rosehip seed oil for extra potency and healing benefits

For hyperpigmentation:  Rosehip contains Vitamin A which can help with hyperpigmentation and areas of sun damage. In this case, I like to combine my rosehip oil with a drop of lemon or lavender essential oil. Simply add 1 drop of your chosen essential oil to 5ml of rosehip oil.  Apply twice a day to the affected areas.

For rosacea, eczema and inflammation:  Rosehip contains Vitamin A and a wonderful amount of fatty acids that help the skin to repair and heal. Simplify your skincare and get back to basics with a plain unscented moisturising oil like rosehip.

I’d love to hear how rosehip could help your skin, what will  you be blending next?
