Girl Power at Akamuti…

March is all about celebrating women and as Akamuti is a predominantly female team (with one great guy of course), it’s a great opportunity to introduce you to the Akamuti ladies. We all work hard at different aspects of the business from taking the orders to making the products and then shipping them off to all our lovely customers. We are all very different people but we come together to make the business run smoothly. This blog post is all about meeting the team and learning a little about what we do and what we like about Akamuti!

Lindsey

What do you do at Akamuti?
I’m the founder and managing director. I do all the behind the scenes running of the business, from sourcing our raw ingredients, communicating with customers, designing new products and in general everything it takes to run the business. It’s an eclectic mix and I love it!

What made you start Akamuti, what was your inspiration?
As a teenager I fell in love with plants and their stories. I lived in a small cottage in the middle of the woods and was surrounded by plants that I had never seen before. I identified hundreds of them, and I was so excited to discover that these mysterious plants were not just ‘weeds’ but were often lost herbal remedies with a rich history of folk medicine. I signed up to do a herbal medicine course and got started making products! I still remember the first product I ever made – beautiful rich, green comfrey balm and that was the start of Akamuti.

What is your favourite product?
This is such a tough question! I have so many favourites, it’s hard to narrow it down, it also
changes with the season and my age!  Rose however, is my timeless favourite. I love it in our Replenishing Rose Facial Oil and I love using the Rose Otto Essential Oil as a perfume oil on my pulse points. It’s wonderful.
What is your favourite part of the job?
I love dreaming up and creating new products and of course working with aromatic oils. Since our move to Pembrokeshire, I have had a chance to focus on new ingredients and new ideas. We have been having lots of fun coming up with brand new soap recipes and I never get tired of experimenting and learning about new ingredients.

What is your favourite product?
Mum’s tummy butter definitely! I’ve just had a baby and during pregnancy and post pregnancy I have been using the butter and it feels so good on my skin and it really has been toning down my stretch marks. It’s just so smooth!

What is your favourite part of the job?
I love designing and taking product pictures for the social media posts, it’s so much fun thinking about themes for the month and arranging the pictures and trying to get the perfect shot! I’m quite an arty person so it’s great to let my brain go a bit crazy and think up new ideas.
