Why African Black Soap:

Our African Black Soap is one of the healthiest soaps for the skin due to the purity and simplicity of the ingredients. It has a very mild scent and a wonderful creamy lather, which leaves your skin feeling moisturised and soft. It It makes a fantastic facial soap, as well as being used as a natural shampoo for very dry hair. As a body soap, it is suitable for all skin types but particularly helpful for dry skin.

Completely unique, this soap has no added preservatives, colour enhancers or fragrances. It is completely free from black dyes and charcoal.

Hand crafted in Ghana:

African black soap is hand crafted by women’s co-operatives in Ghana. The women use techniques that have been used for thousands of years.  A unique soap, black soap is made with a potash lye. The potash is made from cocoa leaves and shells and plantain leaves. This plant based lye gives black soap it’s characteristic chocolate brown colour. The high content of shea butter in black soap gives it a creamy quality that is ideal for dry, sensitive skin.

Ethical trading:

Our black soap is sourced from a women’s project in Ghana. They produce environmentally friendly and socially responsible African products such as organic shea butter. This project enables thousands of Ghanaian women to supply an international market with their produce. Supporting such projects facilitates the protection of trees such as the shea parklands. It also preserves biodiversity and the natural habitats of hippopotamus living by the Black Volta River.

How to keep your soap at its best:

African Black Soap is naturally soft and crumbly and absorbs water easily. Keep your bar on a soap dish or slice a piece from the main bar. As this is a pure product made with botanical ingredients, you may get the occasional grain of grit in it, so rub it into your hands first, rather than straight on the body.
